Forget Resolutions. Start a Business Instead.

Use code SUBSTACK for A FREE Sprint

Hey ,

It’s December 30th. You know what that means.

Everyone’s posting their “New Year, New Me” content. Gym memberships are being purchased. Vision boards are being made. Resolutions that’ll be abandoned by February 3rd are being written down.

Here’s a better idea: Start your business on January 1st.

Not “think about it.” Not “research it.” Not “make a plan to maybe start planning.”

Actually start it.

Why January 1st Is the Perfect Day to Launch

The calendar resets
  • Fresh start energy is real (use it)

  • Your competition is hungover or writing resolutions

  • You get to say “I started my business in 2025” for the rest of your life

The excuses expire
  • “I’ll start next year” is no longer an option

  • You’ve been thinking about this for months (maybe years)

  • Waiting won’t make it easier

The timing is actually perfect
  • Q1 is when budgets reset and people are ready to buy

  • You have 12 full months to build momentum

  • Starting now means revenue by spring

Use code SUBSTACK for A FREE Sprint

Morning (9am - 10am): Complete your BUILD Sprint

  • Go to buildthedamnthing.com

  • Use code SUBSTACK for a free sprint

  • One hour later, you have a business plan, brand kit, and live website

  • Seriously. One hour.

Afternoon (2pm - 4pm): Tell 20 people

  • Text, DM, or email 20 people who would use your product/service

  • Don’t ask for feedback. Tell them what you’re selling.

  • Offer a “founding customer” rate

  • Goal: Book your first 3 customers before the day ends

Evening (7pm - 8pm): Set up your systems

  • Connect payment processing (Stripe or PayPal)

  • Create your social media accounts

  • Schedule your first week of posts

  • You’re officially in business

No More “Someday”

I talk to so many people who’ve been “planning to start a business” for years. They have the idea. They have the skills. They have the need.

What they don’t have is a start date.

Make it January 1st.

Not because it’s magic. Because you need to pick a day and stop waiting for permission, perfect timing, or more confidence.

The confidence comes from doing it, not before doing it.

START YOUR SPRINT NOW

I Extended the FREE Sprint Code… So NO EXCUSES…

Code SUBSTACK gets you a free BUILD Sprint, but it expires January 2nd (yep, gotta motivate you). And it’s limited to the first 500 substack community members.

Use it January 1st. Start the year as a business owner, not someone who’s thinking about maybe becoming one.

This week’s challenge: Set your alarm for 9am on January 1st. Make coffee. Open your laptop. Build the damn thing.

Let’s go.

Kathryn

P.S. On January 2nd, hit reply and tell me what you built. I’ll be checking my inbox.
